Senior Principal, Cagan Consulting
David Cagan is the senior principal of Cagan Consulting. He has been an active financial and business consultant for ten years. Drawing on his wide range of business experiences in the for profit and nonprofit field, he has learned the ins and outs of financial management, and stage-by-stage business development.
David learned business by running and managing businesses. He has worked in finance, operations, and administration, for over three decades.
Working in the for-profit sector, David worked his way up through a national eCommerce mail order company, performing every single job in the company, to become its Chief Operating Officer. As an acting lead C-level officer, David doubled the size and revenue of the company in four years. Additionally, he Managed 25 member staff; directed all financial and legal aspects of the company, including A/R, A/P, year-end tax returns, quarterly sales tax and bookkeeping; supervised purchasing and marketing departments; created and supervised customer service and fulfillment teams; guided website development, including state of the art web design and advanced back-of-house sales and inventory management system; supervised inventory, purchasing, and vendor relations staff; supervised IT and introduced inventory bar code system for 20,000 item inventory, supervised acquisition and renovation of 10,000 sq. ft. facility; developed four color catalog mailings and 35,000 customer database.
Working in the nonprofit sector, among his many accomplishments, David worked as the business administrator for the Local Economies Project and the Hudson Valley Farm Hub, beginning at the start-up level of three employees, helping the organization grow to a bustling organization of over forty employees. David has been involved in financial planning, budgeting, operations, fundraising, client services, marketing, administration, and HR.
David has a B.A. from Cornell University and an M.A. from Pace University.
In his free time, David enjoys practicing Tai Chi, reading and playing board games. He lives with his wife in Kingston, New York.
